Find Your Voice This Fall
It’s a bit of a stretch to say I grew up making music. Oh, I was in choir, but my first director wouldn’t have exactly called it “singing.“ Many would argue that I missed the point, but I maintain that at least in pre-school choir, you deserve at least a little credit for being the loudest voice in the room. Today, I have my mother to thank for continuing to drag me to church choir practice as my toddlerhood freedom waned and turned to adolescent inhibitions and a lack of belief in my own voice. By the time I got to middle school, I barely opened my mouth in choir. I would have told you, “I just don’t like singing, I’m not very good at it, it’s not cool, etc.” But, the truth is that I was scared to be heard. Fortunately, I was surrounded by encouraging musicians and loving church members who knew the adage I share in my vocation today: “Everyone can sing!” Whether you’re a concert soloist, shower karaoke master, or free-range hymn hummer, everyone can sing, and everyone deserves the right to fully enjoy making music with one another without judgement.
For many of us, it’s been a lifetime since we’ve experienced that childlike freedom and exploration.
But, that doesn’t mean we can’t…

Our Sedgefield Presbyterian Chancel Choir meets on Sunday mornings at 9am, starting back on Sunday, September 13.
